SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean singer Taeil has departed from the K-pop group NCT following allegations of an unspecified sexual offense, his label confirmed on Wednesday.

The company issued a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday.

The label stated, “We acknowledge the gravity of the situation and have determined that Taeil can no longer participate in team activitie

We have addressed this issue with Taeil, and it has been decided that he will leave the group," the label said. They also noted that Taeil is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

Taeil has been a member of the renowned K-pop boy group NCT since 2016 and is also part of its sub-unit, NCT 127.

Taeil had been active in promotions as recent as the latter's July album release.

According to reports from Korea JoongAng Daily, despite his departure from NCT, Taeil's contract with SM Entertainment remains active for now.

SM Entertainment's statement quickly amassed over 45.7 million views in under three hours.

The report of the criminal case could not be independently confirmed, and the police declined to provide any comments.

K-pop originated in South Korea and combines Western pop, R&B, and hip-hop influences with unique cultural elements from the country.
